Unit 1:
1900-1928- Growth, Sacrifice, and Dreams of Peace:
Canada at the turn of the century is studied with particular emphasis on Prime Minister Wilfred Laurier’s political experiences and the large influx of immigration during this period. We will also look at the causes, characteristics, and effects of World War One on Canadian life. The unit will conclude with a look at the “Roaring Twenties”.

With the crash of the stock markets in 1929, Canada enters a period of severe depression. The economic and social consequences of this depression will be looked at. Unit 2 will end with an in-depth look at World War Two and its effects on Canadian life.

In this unit we will look at the two decades that followed WWII, specifically some of the changes socially, politically, and economically in Canada. This unit will also look at some of the international relationships Canada had during the Cold War.

In this unit, we will look at the conflicts and economic challenges that Canadians faced during this time with specific focus on the “October Crisis” in Quebec, and the oil crisis worldwide.

In this unit we will look at key issues that Canadians faced from 1984 to present day. Areas of interest will be the North American Free Trade Agreement, the Middle East, Terrorism, and Arctic Sovereignty.
